This is one of the most spectacular kitchen remodels that Restore North Shore has had the pleasure of completing. The owners had wanted to create an open kitchen that transformed the original dark tight space and invited friends and family to enjoy the many interesting spaces within the home. Our goal was to create a dialogue between each of the unique spaces that not only told a story but left you wanting to move through the space effortlessly and naturally as if it had always existed.
The primary goal was to create a clean, open kitchen space that the family would be able to gather in and enjoy. The original kitchen was out dated, dark and small. We rebuilt the entire space, opening it up by knocking down walls and creating a spacious and contemporary kitchen with two elegant pantries, an adjacent office and a powder room. This kitchen is full of details and hidden nooks that contribute to both the form and function of the kitchen design.
The kitchen features two different stone counters white quartzite and leathered Brazilian Calcutta. The Leathered Brazilian Calcutta surrounding the perimeter of the kitchen is warm and the texture offers interest as well as a softness to the space. The white quartz on the island is clean and crisp and is highlighted by elegant Visual Comfort lights which provide just enough interest with the white exterior and Brass interior to draw your eye around the room. The simplicity of the white hood perfectly completes the warm yet sophisticated feeling this kitchen exudes. The crisp white of the counter top, tile backsplash and hood provide a striking contrast to the rich stained black cabinets with brass handles. The large window overlooking the yard offers light and frames the beautiful Julien Farm sink with walnut cutting board insert and highlights the stunning brass faucet by Waterworks. The simple handmade 3 x 12 white subway tile is clean and crisp and adds just enough texture to the backsplash. The warm walnut floating shelves offer the owner a place to show off her collections highlighted by the brass library sconces.
The opening between the kitchen and the office allows to owner to enjoy her family while still getting her work completed. The wall of floating walnut shelving is a continuation of the shelves featured in the kitchen.
The kitchen is also flanked by two beautiful and functional pantries that provide additional storage and function for the family´s day to day life and entertaining. The owner loves warmth and color. The kitchen is crisp and warm, so to add a little interest and FUN, we created both a formal Butlers’ Pantry adjoining the Dining Room as well as a more casual Pantry adjoining the Family Room. Each of these Pantry spaces provides an interesting and natural transition to the adjoining spaces.
The Butlers’ Pantry features rich forest green high gloss lacquer cabinetry with back lit leaded glass upper cabinets. We replicated the design of the leaded glass in the adjoining Dining Room in upper cabinets continuing the vintage feeling of the original home.
The informal Pantry features a cheerful Tiffany Blue high gloss lacquer cabinet with back lit glass upper cabinetry, and a smokey mirror back splash with soft undercabinet lighting. This open galley pantry is flanked on both sides with cabinetry. The floor to ceiling cabinets frame a walnut counter offering warmth and provide a dialogue with the walnut shelving in the kitchen while the cheerful blue offers a natural transition into the casual Family Room.
The end result was a warm inviting kitchen that provided a dialogue between each of the unique spaces encouraging an effortless and natural flow as if it had always existed.
